İlkay Gündoğan was born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 1990. He was transferred to FC Nurnberg of Bundesliga at the second half of the 2008-09 seasons. He made his debut match against Schalke 04 on August 8th 2009 at Bundesliga and his first goal was to FC Bayern Munich in the league. After the championship experience with Dortmund, he was invited to the German National team by Joachim Löw for the 2012 European Football Championship team. On October 1st 2011, he played his first game against Belgium with the German National team for the 2012 European Football Championship qualifiers and he continued to rise in his career. In 2011-12 seasons, he transferred to Borussia Dortmund which was the previous season champion of Bundesliga, replacing Nuri Şahin who was transferred to Real Madrid. As of 2018 aiming towards the championships with Manchester City, İlkay Gündoğan’s performance has a big part in this success.
